Utility Desk: The central government has redesigned the ration card under the 'Ek Desh Ek Ration Card' scheme. The government has directed the state government to use this new design to create new ration cards. The government has launched a campaign to create a uniform ration card across the country from June 1 in 2020.



The state government must declare 10 digit ration number
The central government has asked the state government to declare 10 digit ration number. It will have the first 2 digit state code, the second 2 digit current ration card number. In addition, Digit Ration will display the unique ID of each member of the cardholder's family. According to Food Ministry data, there are 75 million beneficiaries of ration card in the country under NFSA (National Food Security Act).

Benefits of the 'One Nation One Ration Card' scheme
With this scheme, the ration card holder will be able to purchase ration from any government approved ration shop. This will reduce the dependence of the beneficiary shopkeepers and reduce corruption. According to Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, the scheme will benefit people living in other states for jobs. At present 100% of POS machines have been installed at 100% shops in states including Andhra Pradesh, Haryana. With the implementation of the 'One Nation One Ration Card' scheme, it will be necessary to install a POS machine at all PDS (public distribution system) shops across the country.

IMPDS
Under IMPDS (Integrated Management of Public Distribution System), ration card holders of some states may purchase ration from any ration shop in other states. These include Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana and Tripura.
